Respiratory syncytial virus in lower respiratory tract infections.

چکیده
Acute lower respiratory infections (ALRI) are a major cause of morbidity and mortality amongst children in developing countries. We evaluated the extent of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infection in children with ALRI using a rapid and sensitive enzyme immunoassay for the antigen detection directly from the nasopharngeal aspirate. The immune response to the virus was determined by detecting the virus specific antibody levels in subjects with and without ALRI.

Background and purpose: The acute lower respiratory tract infective agents in children are different. The rate of their role in causing infection differs with the age of patients, season, geographical areas and diagnostic methods. The aim of this study is to determine the rate of the role of respiratory syncytial and influenza viruses in Mazandaranian children infected with acute lower res...

Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) causes recurrent upper and lower Respiratory tract infections (especially pneumonia and bronchiolitis). Detection of the infection with respect to its morbidity seems to be a nessecity. In this research nasopharyngeal secretions of 145 patients with respiratory symptoms from Imam Khomeini, Markaz Tebbi and Baharami hospitals were analyzed with direct immunofluo...

Background & Aims: Acute respiratory infections are common cause of mortality during childhood. This study was designed to determine the incidence of adenovirus, parainfluenza virus and respiratory syncytial virus in respiratory infections by Multiplex PCR method. Methods: This study included 168 children under 2 years of age with clinical diagnosis of bronchiolitis. Nasopharyngeal specimens we...

Comprehensive population-based data on the role of respiratory viruses in the development of lower respiratory tract infections (LRTIs) remain unclear. We investigated the incidence and effect of single and multiple infections with respiratory viruses on the risk of LRTIs in Vietnam. Population-based prospective surveillance and a case-control study of hospitalised paediatric patients with acut...

Respiratory syncytial virus infection is the leading cause of lower respiratory tract infections in young children. Palivizumab has minimal impact on RSV hospitilization rates as it is only practical to offer it to the highest risk groups. The present statement reviews the published literature and provides updated recommendations regarding palivizumab use in children in Canada.
